Here’s what’s happening in Hamilton this Victoria Day long weekend.

Saturday

HMCS Haida

Love Canadian history? Come view and explore the HMCS Haida, a Tribal-class destroyer ship that served in the Royal Canadian Navy. This ship participated in both World War II and the Korean War.

HMCS Haida is docked at Hamilton’s Pier 9, ready for all to climb aboard and explore its historic decks.

The ship opens at 10 am and closes at 4:45 pm. Kids 17 and younger get in for free, while adults pay $3.90.

Shop the Cotton Factory: Artists and Makers

Love supporting local artists? Come shop and get inspired this weekend at The Cotton Factory. More than 35 artists and makers will be displaying their works, all for you to enjoy and purchase.

If you’re looking for a unique gift, the makers here will have it. With products ranging from fine to modern art, handcrafted jewelry to candles, and all the way to home décor, there’s something for everyone.

The event runs from 11 am to 4 pm.

Plus-size Women’s Clothing Swap

Looking for trendy, plus-size women’s clothing at an affordable price? The 4th annual Hamilton Plus Size Clothing buy, sell, and swap event has got you covered.

This cash-only, multi-vendor indoor consignment sale is catered to clothing sizes 14 and up. Along with a wide variety of clothing pieces, you can also expect to find accessories and shoes.

Admission to the sale is completely free. The event takes place at Barton Stone United Church, and runs from 12 pm to 3 pm.

Rosé All Day – Wine Workshop

What’s better than a glass of rosé? Multiple glasses of rosé.

Come join this delightful wine workshop and learn all about what makes rosé so special. Taste various wines made from all different grapes, learn how it’s made, and learn what your preferred style of rosé tastes like.

Taking place at Toast Wine Bar, the event runs from 1 pm to 3 pm. Tickets are $40 and are available online.

Polyester! Drag Show & Dance Party

Are you ready to clap, dance, and feel your oats? Come on out to the 6th session of Polyester!, a drag show and dance party at This Ain’t Hollywood.

Dottie Dangerfield will be performing throughout the night, and DJ Rosé and Fawn Big Canoe will provide the tunes. They party starts at 10 pm so be ready to dance into the night!

Doors open at 9pm and the event goes until 1am. Ticket holders are guaranteed VIP entrance until 12 am. Tickets are $13 and are available online.

Sunday

Guided Bird Hike in the Dundas Valley

Come search for the many migrant birds that pass through Dundas Valley every spring on an incredible guided hike. The 2 1/2 hour hike, lead by bird expert James Lees, will take you through one of Canada’s finest Carolinian forests.

Only $10 per person, all money collected will go to the Hamilton Conservation Foundation Dundas Valley fund.

The hike begins at 8 am, meeting at the Hermitage parking lot on Sulpher Springs Road in Ancaster. To register for the guided bird hike, e-mail james.lee@conservationhamilton.ca

SalsaSoul Sunday! Taco de Mayo Long Weekend Fiesta

Love eating, salsa dancing, and charity? Participate in this long weekend edition of SalsaSoul Sunday in support of Food4Kids. One dollar from every entrance admission, as well as each taco from Rony’s Rotisserie, will go directly to Food4Kids.

Start your evening off with beginner salsa lessons and enjoy the taco bar. Later on, dance the night away to the soundtrack of DJ Steven White. Feel the music and move your body to the best salsa, bachata, cha-cha, and merengue songs.

Taking place at The Spice Factory, the event begins at 7 pm and runs until 1 am. The entrance fee is $10.

Dundas Driving Park Fireworks

Fireworks are a staple of the Victoria Day long weekend. This year, the Dundas Valley Sunrise Rotary Club and the City of Hamilton have teamed up to bring Victoria Day fireworks at the Dundas Driving Park.

Food trucks and live music will be on site starting at 6 pm. The fireworks begin at 9:30 pm, weather permitting.

This is a free event. Onsite parking is limited, so arrive early to ensure your spot. Feel free to park at any of the free Dundas municipal parking lots and walk to the park.

Monday

Shrek Family Pyjama Party

Kick back with the family this Monday and enjoy a special screening of Shrek at the Zoetic theatre. All are invited to embrace the spirit of the long weekend and stay in their pajamas.

Every admission includes a door prize raffle ticket. There will be face-painting available for the kids, as well as many other fun activities.

Doors open at 9:30 am, and the show starts at 10:30 am. Advance tickets are available online.
